A local toon from last week

We've got a serious problem here in North Florida with the lack of rain. Retention ponds are low, and as a result fish kills are becoming more common. To make matters worse, yards are still being over fertilized and that fertilizer is making it's way into storm drains, retention ponds and eventually our waterways. We also get these weird algae blooms when the oxygen levels drop in the creeks and rivers.

Sunday Sketch July 31st

I've never drawn from this model before, so I didn't know what to expect. But she held a pose like a stone, and it was nice to get back to drawing the figure again (a nice break from working on my landscapes for September's show). Speaking of which, the official dates for the opening have been announced! The show is called "2x2x5" and will feature 5 Corse Gallery artists (including the lady herself!). Be sure to mark your calendars for the evening of September 9th. Come by and enjoy a glass of wine in the heart of Avondale. Here's the Facebook event page for the show: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=170513303019685

Friday's syndicate cartoon

I've had this cartoon sitting on my desk (uninked) since last Thursday. That's when I first heard about her husband's "clinic" where he councils gay people not to be gay anymore. Today I heard her pronounce that she would no longer be taking questions about her husband or their business. So of course I rushed to get it to the syndicate for the weekend slot. God help us if this woman gets elected.

Tuesday's Syndicate cartoon

Funny story (well not that funny actually) - after I sent this out to all of my publications, I remembered that Obama is left-handed. Oops. It was a pretty easy fix in Photoshop.

Today's syndicate cartoon

I always get a little nervous when a cartoon idea presents itself so clearly and immediately to me. I knew I wanted to marry these two topics, but I wasn't sure how I would until I heard a conversation very much like this on the radio this morning.

A busy start to a busy week, so only enough time to post one of these today. 50 minute pose.

Posted by request

I wasn't going to post this, but my editor liked it, and I had one other non-subscriber request to see it, so here it is.

Gerrymandering is a hot topic here in Florida lately.

Also running in my local paper tomorrow.

Pedro & the Clown for July

Here's my editor's take on the entire situation and a little background info for the cartoon.

A little press from The St. Pete Times

The St. Pete Times wrote a short article about last week's AAEC Confab in (where else?) St. Petersburg:

In a momentary lapse of judgement, someone asked me to be on the nominating committee in Washington DC next year. Guess that means we'll be seeing everyone again in 2012. Can't wait!
