The more I study them, the more I find them to be a most under appreciated bird. Beautiful coloring, that turns a myriad of purples and blues in just the right light. Mysterious and smart. Conniving and mischievous. I like this bird.

Today's cartoon
Wisconsin isn't the only State suffering from political turmoil. As newly anointed Florida Governor Rick Scott continues his slash and burn budgetary policies, teachers, public workers, State Parks, and the uninsured are starting to feel the effects.
Through all of this I continue to wonder where the money was coming from before? Did we just leave the tab open so long that eventually it caught up to us? I guess that the States (just like everyone else) thought that the party was going to go on forever. Now we've got one helluva hangover.

My Sketchy Valentine
I attended Jacksonville's monthly Dr. Sketchy's last night. Ran into a few friends. It was fun, albiet smokey. Anyway, I'm posting some 2 minute gestures, a 20 minute pen & ink line drawing, and a more finished one. Come and join us this evening for our weekly SketchUp at The Lakewood Starbucks. We've got a Facebook page up now for this event, where I'm sure we'll be posting more of these and the results from tonight. See you there!
Cheers,
Ed

Sunday Figure Sketch
Visited the weekly figure drawing session at FSCJ today. Great model and a great group today. I tried some different stuff with my gesture drawings, mixing it up with a couple of colors & charcoal. For the longer poses I worked in my Moleskine and tried to use more economy of line. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. We've got a Dr. Sketchy event on Tuesday night, so I should have some more figure stuff to post Wednesday. Stay tooned.

Today's syndicate cartoon & more!
Just back from attending the Morning Leak with the good folks @ AIGA Jacksonville. Great crowd and presentations this morning, and it was cool talking with some of my AIGA buds. Anyway, here's this week's cartoon for The Ponte Vedra Recorder. They ran a story last week about a Ponte Vedra couple whose Cairo vacation was cut short by the unrest in Egypt. I was also able to use this one for my syndicate (suh-weet!). BTW, we've got our weekly sketchup tonight at the Starbucks in Lakewood (5:30 - close). Lots in the works this week, including nailing down a name for this event, a possible logo (Jim?) and work on a Facebook page. Stay tooned!

Sunday Sketches
We're back on our regular Sunday sketch routine now, and we were happy to find one of our favorite models posing today! Time restraints with the Super Bowl starting in a half hour, so I'll just post a couple gestures, and one of the 30 minute poses. Great to see all of the old crew again! Good people.

Cartoons, News and Notes
Here's this week's cartoons. The first one has been picked up by the Florida Audubon society for their website and newsletter. I'm pretty stoked about that. The second one deals with the continued Gerrymandering of our great State. They think a website is gonna help - they're sadly mistaken.
In other news, I was interviewed this week by the AIGA for their Membership Spotlight piece. It's a new feature on the AIGA website focusing on working artists and graphic designers here in Jacksonville. Here's the link: http://tiny.cc/4hm7r Many thanks to the gang over at AIGA. (esp. Jim, Steph & Varick)
Also, starting this week, me and the missus will be shifting our figure drawing emphasis back to our traditional Sunday morning sketch class. This will allow us to draw together, and reconnect with some of our buddies over at FSCJ. So look for figure drawing posts on Monday mornings instead of Tuesday mornings. (Can't wait to see Vinnie again!)
Have a GREAT weekend - I'm goin' to get me some BBQ! Go Pack!
