Gotta love Governor Rick Scott

This guy has no shame. From slashing an already ailing education system beyond the bone, to requiring State Employees to submit to mandatory urine test (administered by his wife's company Solantic BTW) he has in his first few months in office managed to set up the great State of Florida for a fall. Not quite sure how he got elected, but I have heard more than a few of my Republican friends wishing they had not voted for him. To that I must ask - what did you think you were going to get? I'm actually doing two cartoons on him this week (this is the milder one). Stay tooned!

Tuesday Night Figure Drawing

I've shifted over to Tuesdays at TAC now for my mid-week figure drawing fix. Had a great time last night catching up with old friends and meeting some other Jacksonville artists. Anyway, I was pretty happy with my gestures, so I'll post those first. I also did another figurative collage in my Moleskine. For the long pose I sketched the model's dog Soma. What a cool canine; part wolf I think, with blue eyes. Wild stuff - I'll post that page later. I actually have a TON of stuff to post today. Stay tooned!

I wonder how many people actually knew that Tuesday was World Water Day. BTW, if you get a chance, try to see the documentary film "Flow." It's a very interesting look at our relationship with water, and how oil shortages pale in comparison to the coming water shortage problems. Breaking out the digital crayons

Taking a break from traditional painting today, I wanted to make sure I am keeping my Photoshop skills up to snuff. Here's a Supergirl mash-up that I started the blue pencils for yesterday and finished today. The pencils were done in my Moleskine, the inking was done in Manga Studio Debut, and the coloring was done in Photoshop. What a way to kill a Thursday afternoon huh?

Moleskine Progression

Here's a snapshot progression of a page in my Moleskine. I started sketching the crew at our Wednesday Sketchup session, and this is as far as I got. I'll finish the bottom left hand corner next week when I can watch Jim draw again (you can kind of see his ghosted profile image there I think). Until then, have a GREAT weekend. Oh, and a great big shout-out to our newest follower in Portugal!

What a great time sketching last night at The Sinclair. The model was awesome, and the cigarette smoke wasn't too bad. I'll post two pen & ink drawings out of my Moleskine for now. I also did a few gestures and a pencil sketch. I'll post those later.

Today's Syndicate cartoon

I wanted to do something that linked our anemic economic recovery & the rising cost of a barrel of oil. BTW, since I inked this, the price of oil has shot to well over a hundred dollars a barrel. Strap yourself in, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

This week's local cartoons

I'm working on a self-imposed commission deadline this week, so I've completed most of my cartoons early. Here are two that will run later in the week. The first deals with the rising birth rate for unwed teens in Baker County. Turns out there is not much being taught in the schools other than abstinence. Heck, even the teens think that sex education in the county is lacking. Here's the story: http://tinyurl.com/623snwm

The second cartoon is about a funding measure that was originally meant for the widening of a road in St. Johns County. Seems the developers set aside millions to widen the road so that the increased populace brought in by their mega-subdivision would have adequate evacuation lanes in the event of a hurricane. Now there is a push by some locals to use the money for sidewalks instead. This is one of those weird fringe issues that I expect to get some letters on.
