This cartoon will run Friday in one of our local papers. I hope it gets letters, because this problem needs to be brought to light. It seems that there's a new trend of parents organizing so-called "House Parties" for their kids and their friends. These are parties held at the parent's home, where alcohol is sometimes served to minors (already trouble - not to mention illegal). These ain't no slumber parties.
Now, I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and assume that they are only doing this because they'd rather them be drinking at home, than out on their own, doing who-knows-what. That's fine - if it's only your kid. You can do whatever you want with your own children within the confines of your home. The trouble is the other kids that might be going to these parties without the consent of their parents - or without said parent's knowledge of the goings on at these parties. It all smells bad, and any adult in their right mind, should know that this kind of behavior is just wrong. The Sherriff's office seems to agree, and has stepped in to put the hammer down (up to a year in jail and a fine for hosting one of these get-togethers). I say - good - it's about time.
