I got called on the carpet this weekend for not keeping my blog up. I know, I know, you want to see more cartoons. Well, here's three week's worth. Enjoy! BTW, one of the reasons I hadn't been posting is because Blogger is no longer compatible with Internet Explorer 8. Now that I have upgraded to IE 9 updates should be more frequent. I also took the opportunity to update my blog's template. Hope you like the slick new look. You can now Tweet these or share with your friends on Facebook right at the bottom of each post. Thanks in advance for sharing!

Last Week's cartoons
Here are several cartoons from last week. I've been very busy painting in the studio, so I haven't really had a chance to keep up with the blog. Look for some figure sketches in the next post. Cheers, Ed
Another finished Pencil Sketch Commission!
This was a mother's day gift for a business associate of mine. The dog's name is Murphy, and he's a Wheaten Terrier. Very hairy. Don't forget, you can order your own sketch from me. Just shoot me an email (halltoons@aol.com) with a couple of photo's of your dog, and we can discuss pricing. Cheers, Ed

Some recent stuff
If you woke up in Northeast Florida over the past few days, you know that there are numerous forest fires currently burning across our region. The dry conditions are no doubt the result of fewer hurricanes over the past few years. I'm not sure if that's a good trade off or not, but it sure is wrecking havoc on my allergies. A high pollen count, coupled with thick dense smoke does not a happy Ed make.
The second cartoon deals with the looming debt crisis in the student loan industry. With the housing bust and the problems in Europe, this one seems to have been largely over-looked by the media. But it's coming, and it ain't gonna be pretty. Oh, and guess who will end up picking up the bill on all of those defaulted school loans?

Location, location, location
A medical waste incinerator has been proposed for Baker County, and it looks like local residents are going to fight it. A meeting has been scheduled for tonight, and it is expected to be a packed house. I couldn't help but think about the location of potentially toxic waste sites, and how planners come up with these locations. That led me to think about other examples of bad site planning, and that led to this cartoon. My editor loved it.
I discovered something else while researching for this cartoon: when I Googled , Integrated Waste Management Systems (the company that has won the bid to build), nothing came up online. To me that was a red flag, so I called the newspaper and sure enough, this company is only 2 years old. I want someone to tell me how a company that is going to build a major facility for the disposal of potentially toxic and harmful substances has only been around for 2 years. And why is there no record of any of their other projects on the internet? Worried? Residents should be terrified, and pissed.

Friday's syndicate cartoon
Got this one in right before the deadline for the weekend. Whew. I do believe there were racist overtones in this attack, but I also think there was a bit of the "Barney Fife Syndrome" sprinkled in there as well. I've seen some of these neighborhood watch types. They take their "jobs" very seriously. The last thing you want to do is put a gun in the hands of one of these kooks.

Wednesday SketchUp results
Sunday Sketches
I posted these on Facebook, but I think I'll put them up here too for those of you who don't follow me over there. Oh wait...you don't follow me on Facebook? Well then click here.
Cartoons to finish out the week
A couple more cartoons from this week, including my entry for The American Society of News Editor's Sunshine Week initiative. If you're not familiar with Sunshine Week, it is a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. Participants include news media, civic groups, libraries, editorial cartoonists, nonprofits, schools and others interested in the public's right to know. It's goal is to shed light upon those who would do their business outside of the public's knowledge, with funds/tax dollars which are supplied by said public.
