A subtle reminder for the 4th

Easy with the fireworks people.

Bachmann the Borg Queen

When she started talking about her "titanium spine" I knew I had to do something with this image. All of my nerdy (Trekkie) friends should appreciate the use of this metaphor.

A REALLY scary label

I ran the numbers. A 2 pack a day smoker can expect to pay almost three thousand dollars a year for his/her habit. Or another way to look at it is: a few months rent, 10 car payments, a new computer, a cruise, or a week in New York. Just something to think about from an ex-smoker. Don't give these bastards more profits, put it in your own pocket.

Sunday figure sketch results

It was a nice distraction drawing from the figure again yesterday. I decided to put all three long poses on one page in my Moleskine. Now it's back to the easel, and more oil painting for the upcoming 2x2x5 show in September!

Cheers,
Ed

Pedro and the Clown - June 2011

Just realized that I had forgotten to post this at the start of the month. Finishing up July's P&C reminded me. Enjoy.

Last week the St. Johns, this week the St. Marys

It seems big business can't keep their nasty toes out of Florida's rivers and waterways. After the announcement last week that Georgia Pacific plans to pipe paper mill waste directly into the heart of the St. Johns River, comes word this week that a company out of Dallas Texas wants to extract tannins from the St. Marys river for use in fertilizer. Tannins are the elements in the river that turns the water the color of tea. The effects of the removal of tannins on wildlife and the ecosystem has not been thoroughly studied, nor has the effect of pumping the "cleaned" water back into the river.

Sunday Sketch - June 5, 2011

Our regular model was a no-show today, so Vinnie found a replacement. She didn't do too bad either. A couple of good poses, but no gestures (no time). Here's what I sketched in my Moleskine.

This week should be filled up with time painting in preparation for my September show. I'll post again when I come up for air.

Cheers,

Ed

Friday's Syndicate Cartoon - "Pen Prick"

30+ years of progress in the upper St. Johns River basin destroyed with the stroke of a pen? He, must, be, stopped.
