Location, location, location

A medical waste incinerator has been proposed for Baker County, and it looks like local residents are going to fight it. A meeting has been scheduled for tonight, and it is expected to be a packed house. I couldn't help but think about the location of potentially toxic waste sites, and how planners come up with these locations. That led me to think about other examples of bad site planning, and that led to this cartoon. My editor loved it.

I discovered something else while researching for this cartoon: when I Googled , Integrated Waste Management Systems (the company that has won the bid to build), nothing came up online. To me that was a red flag, so I called the newspaper and sure enough, this company is only 2 years old. I want someone to tell me how a company that is going to build a major facility for the disposal of potentially toxic and harmful substances has only been around for 2 years. And why is there no record of any of their other projects on the internet? Worried? Residents should be terrified, and pissed.

Tuesday's TAC sketches

From figure drawing at The Art Center of Jacksonville on Tuesday.

This week's syndicate cartoons

Both featuring Obama. Go figure. I'm not holding out much hope that the Supremes will find Obamacare Constitutional. We'll know more in June, but for now it looks DOA.

Friday's syndicate cartoon

Got this one in right before the deadline for the weekend. Whew. I do believe there were racist overtones in this attack, but I also think there was a bit of the "Barney Fife Syndrome" sprinkled in there as well. I've seen some of these neighborhood watch types. They take their "jobs" very seriously. The last thing you want to do is put a gun in the hands of one of these kooks.

A few recent stencils and Remmy

Showing some of the process, sketches, and finished products after the stencils are printed, cut and finally sprayed. I'll also include a photo of my new mutt, er, I mean muse.

Wednesday SketchUp results

I have this book of model poses that I was sketching from last night. I couldn't decide where this drawing was going and then I suddenly decided to put some wings on her.

Sunday Sketches

I posted these on Facebook, but I think I'll put them up here too for those of you who don't follow me over there. Oh wait...you don't follow me on Facebook? Well then click here.

Cartoons to finish out the week

A couple more cartoons from this week, including my entry for The American Society of News Editor's Sunshine Week initiative. If you're not familiar with Sunshine Week, it is a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. Participants include news media, civic groups, libraries, editorial cartoonists, nonprofits, schools and others interested in the public's right to know. It's goal is to shed light upon those who would do their business outside of the public's knowledge, with funds/tax dollars which are supplied by said public.

What the squid did next - process

Here's an illustration that was recently published in a magazine out of the UK. I'll include some of the roughs that were declined. I thought they went with a good one, but not my favorite.

A big batch of cartoons

Here's a batch of my most recent cartoon work. I'm including both local and national topics. I haven't been posting here as often as I'd like, but that just means I'm busy doing other stuff that actually makes money. Stay tooned.
